If one of your goals this year is to get organized, we have tips and advice from a professional organizer to help you get started.

Emily Evans parlayed her love for organizing into a career. She is the owner of Eliminate: Professional Organizing where she works with clients to help them make the most of their spaces.

Her first tip if you're looking to get things in order is to start with the space you use the most. She warns that things will look worse before they get better as you're going through your posessions, deciding what to keep, what to donate and what to toss.

A common pitfall is to get distracted while going though your stuff. Emily says you should set projects aside until your task is complete.

Once you've purged the items you no longer need or want, and organized what's left, she says you should purge again with a critical eye.

Emily says previous clients have reported never having felt or slept better once everything is in order.
